This isn't a mid-life crisis OK? For a start I'm not old enough yet to have one of those. I'm calling it a happiness project. I've stolen an entire summer from my life and by the time it's over I plan to leave this place with a list in my hand. The ten things that make me happy, that's all I want to know. How difficult can it be?

They may be small things - a perfect cup of coffee, a day without rain - or bigger ones. It's still the beginning so how can I know?

Addolorata Martinelli knows she should be happy. She has everything she thought she wanted - her own business, a husband, a child. So why does she feel as if something is missing? Then when her restaurant, Little Italy, is slated by a reviewer, she realises that she's lost the one thing she thought she could always count on, her love of food.

So Addolorata heads to Venice for a summer alone, aiming to find the ten things that make her happy. Once she's found them, she'll construct a new life around her ten things, but will they include her life in London?

One Summer in Venice (Audible Audio Edition) Nicky Pellegrino Jane McDowell Orion Publishing Group Books

‘One Summer In Venice’ is delicious in every sense: the food; the eccentric characters (especially those MUCH older than me) and their flamboyant clothes; the tango (yes, in Venice); the gorgeous Italian men; and the sights and sounds and smells and tastes of that romantic city. Nicky Pellegrino’s latest novel is an effortless read but it has a heartfelt message. The protagonist—stressed out, unhappy London chef Addolorata Martinelli (Dolly!)—escapes London after a bad review of her own restaurant, and in shock after her husband’s revelation that he is tired of her self-centred lifestyle and no longer wants to be with her. In Venice she decides to write a list of what makes her happy, no easy task. By the end of the book you will be making your own list and perhaps planning your own escape, preferably to Venice! We were last in Venice 5 years ago, and Nicky Pellegrino’s delectable descriptions brought it all flooding back. It also stimulated a search of the pantry to seek out ingredients for crostini toppings (anchovy, sardine, goats cheese, roasted red peppers?) to have with the long G & T in the evening sun. Had to make do with blue cheese and quince paste on crackers. Not Venice but lovely anyway.

One Summer in Venice (Audible Audio Edition) Nicky Pellegrino Jane McDowell Orion Publishing Group Books Reviews

Nicky has the gift of taking you along with her in her jaunts, wherever she goes. An excellent evocation of Venice, its people, its winding streets and the typical food, which you can almost taste and smell.
Entertaining from cover to cover.
Purchased this bok, for my Mother, she thourghlyenjoyed the read, My Mom loves to read, and I have had a fun time, finding her books on . com
A very nice light hearted story with a twist. Easy to read and it did give you an insight into what Venice is all about. It even went back in time and you could envisage how the older people had lived in grandeur and with money. Well worth reading
Another great read! I wish nicky pellegrino could write faster!! I would love to be reading her next book already!...at times I felt like I was in Venice, eating, relaxing and sampling it all . Great book to read anytime or esp if one needs to escape from their own lives for a bit.
The book brought back memories of my visit to this amazing place to get lost in. Well written with the story line that kept it hard fo me to put down and I was sorry when I had reached the end. It brought Venice to life and I was hungry for all the delicious food and drink that was woven throughout the story.
As with all the other books written by this author I get hungry while reading. Yes, I know there are wonderful characters in this story and a message to us middle aged readers to stop and think what really makes us happy? But......I get caught up with the different dishes that are being served up and ultimately get hungry and NEED Italian food now! Loved this book.
A married woman of Italian heritage seeks changes to what she regards as a bland life and travels to Venice for a weeks holiday. She eventually stays on for the whole of summer. The novel almost becomes a daily diary of the woman's activities principal amongst which are eating, consuming copious glasses of wine and learning to dance the tango. She makes some interesting friends and endeavours to list the things that make her happy. Not very exciting and little substance to the story.
